Best Album 2022: Månegarm

Posted on 31 December 2022 by Michel31 December 2022

And here it is: Our Best Album 2022. After Grimner and Baldrs Draumar, Månegarm is the third band which manages to reach the top of this list for the second time. Predictable? No, not really our team has totally changed since 2015 when Månegarm reached the first place with their self-entitled album.
A small disclaimer for everyone who has counted the favourite albums. You will only find four favourite albums in this list. The fifth one was The Hu ‘Rumble of Thunder’, it ended up just outside this list, but an album to check out for sure.
But our undoubted winner of 2022 is:

Manegarm - Ynglingaättens Öde

1. Månegarm – ‘Ynglingaättens Öde’
A clear winner this year? Yes with 39 points Månegarm received the most points by far. Two times voted Best Album, so there is no doubt about it.
Matthew wrote: “Hard to believe these Swedish metal heads have been putting out music for nearly 25 years. Any fan can easily see the maturation of their music over the years, and ‘Ynglingaättens Öde’ is by far a reflection on how their concepts, song writing and music styles have matured over the years, in a great way.” “Many of the other tracks follow the same template giving us traditional folk melodies with heavy riffs and harsh but melodic vocals.  It is apparent that Månegarm has put a lot of thought, emotion and pageantry into ‘Ynglingaättens Öde’ to create a successful record.”

Congratulations Månegarm!!!

Best Debut Album 2022: Vanaheim

Posted on 21 December 2022 by Michel22 December 2022

It was a tight race until the last points from the USA, Sweden, UK and the Netherlands were counted. This year’s winner is:

Vanaheim - Een Verloren Verhaal

1. Vanaheim – ‘Een Verloren Verhaal’
What a first full length album created Vanaheim with this one. What a hell of a month February was this year for Folk-metal. Three February-releases in the top 3 of our Best Debut Album 2022 list. With 37 points very close to the maximum of 40 points. The favourite debut of two of us.
Juergen was exited as well and wrote: “it is really amazing on which high level the band can perform. Even that most properly the symphonic and orchestral parts are coming from the keyboard the quality of the sound is simply amazing, also keeping in mind that Vanaheim is still an independent band. The big variation in their songs, the perfect mix between orchestralic, symphonic, folk episodes and chants combined with their very impressive metal makes this album a pleasure to listen.”

We can only wish Vanaheim all the best and hope to see them shine at many concert next year! Congratulations!

Bloodywood is Beautiful Chaos

Interview with Bloodywood

When Bloodywood released their first album ‘Rakshak’ a little while ago, we were struck by the originality of it. The blend of Indian folk with metal is a great find. The band is filling a rather unique niche with this. Haven’t you heard it? Well you should, just to make up your mind about this. Listen to it now and while you can read what Raoul had to tell about the band.
