Best Album 2022: Månegarm

Posted on 31 December 2022 by Michel31 December 2022

And here it is: Our Best Album 2022. After Grimner and Baldrs Draumar, Månegarm is the third band which manages to reach the top of this list for the second time. Predictable? No, not really our team has totally changed since 2015 when Månegarm reached the first place with their self-entitled album.
A small disclaimer for everyone who has counted the favourite albums. You will only find four favourite albums in this list. The fifth one was The Hu ‘Rumble of Thunder’, it ended up just outside this list, but an album to check out for sure.
But our undoubted winner of 2022 is:

Manegarm - Ynglingaättens Öde

1. Månegarm – ‘Ynglingaättens Öde’
A clear winner this year? Yes with 39 points Månegarm received the most points by far. Two times voted Best Album, so there is no doubt about it.
Matthew wrote: “Hard to believe these Swedish metal heads have been putting out music for nearly 25 years. Any fan can easily see the maturation of their music over the years, and ‘Ynglingaättens Öde’ is by far a reflection on how their concepts, song writing and music styles have matured over the years, in a great way.” “Many of the other tracks follow the same template giving us traditional folk melodies with heavy riffs and harsh but melodic vocals.  It is apparent that Månegarm has put a lot of thought, emotion and pageantry into ‘Ynglingaättens Öde’ to create a successful record.”

Congratulations Månegarm!!!

Manegarm open air

From the moment I woke up on Saturday 24th August, the omens were good for the inaugural Månegarm Open Air festival, held in the headliner’s hometown of Norrtälje in Sweden and with a lineup featuring a veritable who’s who of Swedish Folk Metal. The sun was shining on an unseasonably warm day and … Continue reading →

Grimner Interview

Posted on 18 March 2018 by Michel16 January 2021

Epic Events

Sweden’s Grimner have once again put together another epic album for label Despotz with their latest opus “Vanadrottning” With their 3rd full length under their collective belts, Grimner is now poised to vault into the stratosphere with a string of European tour dates to promote the album. Flute specialist Johan Rydberg answered some questions for us regarding the latest album, the lineup change, the tour and a few other things… check it out…

Once again another epic album from Grimner… what have you been hearing as far as how it has been received so far?
“Thank you very much! The reception has been really good so far. Some seem to like the heavier sound of this album although some seems prefer the more melodic/epic previous album. Anyhow not much bad critique so far.”

The Recipe of Grimner

Posted on 13 March 2016 by Michel16 January 2021

2016 has given us the gift of a new Grimner album entitled “Frost Mot Eld” due to be released later this month. With one of my top albums of 2014 (“Blodshymner”) and my top EP of 2015 (“De Kom Från Norr”) Grimner had set a very high standard and they delivered big time with this new album. Featuring all of the things we love about them… killer riffs, folky instruments, layered vocals and heavy catchy tunes, “Frost Mot Eld” is in the running for album of the year. Both Ted Sjulmark and Marcus Asplund Brattberg (both vocalists and guitarists) dropped in to answer questions regarding the new album, touring and a few other things… check it out.

Posted on 12 February 2016 by Michel22 May 2021

Rating: 10/10 Release: 26-3-2016 Label: Despotz When I said last month I may have been hasty in proclaiming the new Borknagar album of the year, along comes the new Grimner album and helps me prove my point….. Being hasty that is. Right on the heels of being a top 10 … Continue reading →

After ascending to my top 10 releases from 2014, Sweden’s Grimner have returned with an EP entitled “De Kom Från Norr”. Featuring 5 tracks, the EP is all acoustic and traditional based which shows Grimner’s musical ability and ties to the music of their ancestors. Ted Sjulmark (guitarist/vocalist) was able to answer a few questions regarding the EP…check it out…..
